Social Media and Food Services

social medium restaurantImagine, you are seated at a restaurant and your order arrives.  It looks AMAZING!  What is the first thing you do? Grab your cell phone to snap a quick picture to post to your social media account of your choice.  You know you’ve done it.

I came across an article from the <a href=”http://www.farmersjournal.ie/social-media-important-for-food-service-industry-168630/”>Irish Farmers Journal</a>.  Maureen Gahan from Bord Bia calls it “food theatre”.

I know that the article talks about the food market of Ireland, but I think this applies tenfold to the US.  Anyone can post pictures and hash tag your restaurant.  This adds pressure for chefs to display their culinary skills 24/7.

What do you think about this new social media direction that restaurants are being forced into? I would love to hear your opinion.
